During this period I was a
learning support assistant at a school for children with severe learning disabilities,
this position involved a wide variety of responsibilities including working
with teachers to design and implement study programs for individual students
and for whole class groups.
From September 2002 until September
2004 I worked as part of the Oaklands
Park School
transferred to the school’s residential department, to work as a residential
social worker.
This position held increased responsibility
in many areas and demanded more cooperation with other professionals in the
educational and health professions, attending multi-agency meetings and
creating plans for the personal development of students at the school. This
position also involved working closely with parents to promote cooperation and
continuity in the development of their children.
During my time at Oaklands Park
School I also attended many workshops
and training days involving the use of Makaton sign language and other
communication devices such as PECS
